Reproductive desires are similar for HIV infected patients as those who are uninfected. Appropriate preconception counseling and HIV care -- reducing an infected partner's viral load to undetectable, reducing the risk of perinatal transmission in discordant couples, and preventing perinatal transmission -- are the topics that will be covered by William R. Short, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University. Dr. Short also manages the care of HIV positive patients, including pregnant women and women seeking pregnancy.
