This one-day training examines the interrelationships among adult domestic violence, HIV/AIDS and STIs. The goals of this training are to assist health and human service providers to: understand the nature and dynamics of domestic violence in both opposite-sex and same-sex relationships; understand how social and cultural gender roles and identities influence or contribute to domestic violence; distinguish between realities and myths of domestic violence; understand how domestic violence may impact interactions with clients; understand how patterns of abuser may inform patterns of risk for HIV and STIs, and how disclosure of HIV status may place someone at risk for abuse; identify the essential components of domestic violence assessments; and make culturally appropriate referrals in situations involving domestic violence.
